Building a Web Site

Session 2 - Using Web Authoring Tools

In session 2, we will open the world of What You See is What You Get (WYSIWYG) editors.  Services such as Homestead.com provide simple authoring tools.  A powerful free tool has been available in the past from Microsoft as an add-on to Internet Explorer (FrontPage Express) and Netscape Communicator continues to provided a simple, free web authoring tool.  For this course, we will use a widely-available tool in Blue Valley - FrontPage 2000.  It has been standard as part of the software package purchased along with all new computers since Summer of 1999.  Upgrades to Office 2000 are the recommended path for other Blue Valley staff to bring their PC computers up to date.

Assignment

If your work was NOT stored in an "organized" fashion in session 1, begin here:

  • Create a folder on your floppy disk to contain all your web files.
  • Create a folder INSIDE the first folder - name this folder "Images".
  • Store all work for the course in these folders.

Either add to the assignment document from session 1 or start over to include:

  • two different kinds of lists (you may use a list nested within a list)
  • links to two other web sites you like

Bring this file on a disk to class next session OR submit your sample web page to the instructor at the course site at BlackBoard.com!  Participants should also continue to explore sites with information about web page design.  Complete the second quiz at this same page for the course.
