Building a Web Site
of Your Own

Session 4 begins the road to multimedia on the Web! Participants will acquire, edit and incorporate graphics into their Web creations. Also, participants will record simple sounds and include these in their web pages. By the end of the session, all basic skills for creating the required project will be in place. Participants will begin implementing their plan (developed following session three) for a final project for either an "A", a "B", or for the fun and learning experience!

Assignment (due at the final course session or online due date)

By this time, you have already created a well-organized web site consisting of at least two pages, some graphics files, links to other places in the world, and all stored neatly in a single folder.  The following items are due to complete the requirements for the course (for a B).

First, each participant should "complete" a small web site according to the following criteria:

  • At least three separate pages
  • Pages should link appropriately to each other (links should work!)
  • Include at least two graphics (clip art, icons, animated gifs, photos, lines, bullets, or backgrounds)
  • Include at least one list (numbered or bulleted)
  • Include at least one table
  • Include links to other web pages elsewhere in the world (links should work!)
  • Place all files into a folder, inside the folder use an images folder for graphics
  • Name all files appropriately (no spaces, no unusual characters, end files with correct suffixes)

Second, please take a few minutes to reflect on effective instruction, resources available, etc.  Then, write a brief description of how a web page (or web pages in general) may serve as educational tools, tools for learning.  Bring your written ideas along to the final class session or submit them via e-mail to the instructor.  For face-to-face classes, be ready to share thoughts in a short discussion time.

Third, complete the short quiz for session 4 and submit it online at the BlackBoard.com web site.

For an A, also complete a second web site or expand on the number of sub pages (at least six) within the web site.
