Building a Web Site
of Your Own

Creating Links with FrontPage Express

Creating links to other resources is quite straightforward by following these steps:

  • highlight the text to become a link (or select the graphic to become a link)
  • click the make link tool on the tool palette.
  • enter the URL of the page to which linking should occur or click Browse to select a page in the local web
  • or, select a target (listed in the "Bookmark" list - Bookmarks are inserted using the Bookmark..." selection under the Edit menu)  to a particular flagged target within either the current document or within a selected file.
  • click "insert"  (Express)

It should be noted that it is possible to link to more than other web pages.  By entering mailto: instead of http:// it is possible to create a link to send an e-mail message.  Entering ftp:// will link to an FTP site.   Using gopher:// will allow a link to a gopher text resource.  For more information about these resources, review the basics of Uniform Resource Locators.
