Building a Web Site Part
II
Create a New Web! |
Step 1 - Select FrontPage from the Programs
menu choice (part of the "Start" menu).
Step 2 - Select either "One Page Web" or
"Empty Web" to start from scratch. Note that the
"location" shown is the place the web will be saved locally
(prior to being published).

When the web first opens, here's what you'll see:
 |
Step 3 - A screen (as shown at
left) will open. The web is in "page view" and
the first page in the new web is already open and ready for
editing. Wait just a moment before beginning that task.
Step 4 - For this class, you'll need to switch to
"Folders" view by clicking the folder icon under
"Views". Create a new folder and name it your
first initial and last name. Drag the other folders
("images" and "_private") into your personal
folder.
Step 5 - Open your new folder (its contents should be
displayed in the right window.) Right-click the mouse in
this window and select "new page". Name it
"default.htm"
Step 6 - Double-click the "default.htm" page
to add content to the page. Saving it should automatically
place it in your folder.
Step 7 - Edit the new page - double-click the page
icon in "Folders" view and the page will open ready to
be edited. See the FrontPage Tools
reference from the introductory course for more information about editing your web
pages.
Right-click the mouse in the right window of
"Folders" view. Select "new
page". As soon as the file is created, you can give
it a more meaningful name than "new_page.htm".
|
To add more pages to the web...
Switch to "Folders" view again by
clicking on the appropriate icon. Repeat the process of
right-clicking to make another page.
When the page is complete it is time to
publish it. Follow this link to learn about publishing and
reopening a web to work on it at a later date.
An Important Note: Even though FrontPage does much
to assist in managing your web site, it is also suggested that we adhere to several
important rules when naming files and saving them in our overall web site.
