A web page that includes frames (like this one) is actually three or more HTML documents which are organized into subparts of the overall browser window.
Here are the steps and what it looks like to make a document with a frames display:
| Start Front Page and make sure you are in
"Page" view. Click "New Page" and the menu shown
at right will appear. This list of frame templates allows us to select the style of screen layout we wish to use. By clicking on the various styles of frames listed, a preview of the page will be shown for your consideration. Don't be concerned if none of them matches your exact vision of how the layout should end up - these can be edited after being selected. |
| A click on one of the template types will
result in a description and preview of the resulting display. The
sample at left is from the "Banner and Contents" as clicked in
the template selection window above.
Once, you've found the "flafor" fo forms pages that best matches your desired page appearance, double click your choice or click it once and then click the OK button |
The template:
A template will be opened similar to the abbreviated version as shown below.
Adjusting sizes, etc.:
Once the "host" page has been created, bars separate the various frames one from another (as shown above). To adjust the relative size of the frames, move the mouse over the separator bar - it becomes a two-way arrow. Click and drag the mouse to change the positioning of a separator bar.
Also, the Frame menu includes options to adjust the properties of the currently active frame (using "Frame properties") or the entire page containing frames (using "Frame page properties"). The "active frame" is shown above with a dark blue rectangle around it while the "inactive frame" has a gray rectangle around it. Right-clicking the mouse also gives access to properties for any frame within the host page.
Try these options to see the variety of adjustments that can be made. For example, it is possible to determine if a scroll bar should appear in a frame always or only when needed. Further adjustments of such mundane things as colors of text, hypertext, etc. are also possible from the properties menus.
