Installing Office 2000 Premium

Put in CD # 1.  An autostart screen should appear. (If it does not, see directions at the end).  The window welcomes you to Office 2000 installation and asks you to provide your name, initials, organiazaion and other info.  It asks for the CD key.  This is on the back of the jewel case that Office came in.

After providing the info click NEXT.  The next screen asks you to read the license agreement.  After you read the agreement (ya! right!), click the I accept the terms in the License agreement option button and then click NEXT.

The next screen provides you with two different installation possibilities.  You can select Install Now (this reads Upgrade Now if you have a previous version of Office on your computer), which installs the most commonly used Office 2000 components and Internet Explorer 5, or you can choose to customize your installation by selecting the Customize button.

I STRONGLY SUGGEST DOING A CUSTOM INSTALL!!!!!!

If you do Install Now, you are basically leaving the installation up to the Office CD, which installs the applications and tools that are considered the common Office components.  The drawback to this is that many things that teachers use, such as clipart are not automatically installed!

Custom Install

Select the Customize button.  The next screen asks you where you would like this to be loaded.  The default is usually your harddrive/program files/ Microsoft Office.  Click next.

You then must select the features you want installed.  Each Office component is listed in the Select features windows.  Each Office application has a plus (+) symbol to the left of the application name.  When you click the plus symbol, it reveals the various components of the application.

A short explanation about symbols

*   Components that are automatically installed are marked with a small computer icon that stands for Run From My Computer.

*      The files marked with the yellow one (1) in front of the computer are Installed on First Use  files.  They are installed on your computer the first time that you use them in a particular application.  This means you must have the CD handy at all times.

*      Files marked with the CD-ROM icon will run from the CD.  In this case, you must have the CD available when you need to use them.

The best way to load all features of the program is to click on the icon in front of each title.  A drop down menu will appear.

Choose Run all from My Computer.  This should make all the subfolders “run from computer” too.  To double check.  Click the plus sign.  Look down the list.  Do all the components have the computer icon?  If not repeat steps above to get it.  The clipart, which every teacher loves, is under Office tools.  Make sure that is marked with the computer icon.

Almost finished!  Click Install now.

It will prompt you to put in CD 2 and CD 3.  BUT WAIT, there is a CD 4!

Installing CD #4

CD 4 contains some of the special tools used in PhotoDraw.  We must drag these tools to the harddrive and then tell PhotoDraw where to find them.

Dragging to the hard drive

After you have installed CD 1 through 3 and restarted your computer,  put CD #4 into  your computer. Right click on My Computer and select Explore.  You will see a window divided into two parts.  On the right side, click on the CD icon.  You should see a folder called PhotoDrw.  Drag that folder to the C drive (or whatever your harddrive is called) on the left side of the screen.  You should get a message saying the files are copying.

When the message disappears, close the window.

Telling PhotoDraw where to find the tools

Go to start, programs, and find PhotoDraw.  When the program opens click OK both times it appears.  Go to the word Tools and then to options.  Click on the file location tab.

See where it say “look for Microsoft PhotoDraw Disc 2 in this Directory”?  If it says c:\ you are finished!!! If not, click on the browse icon to the right of it.  Click until you find the C drive.  Now you are finished.

GREAT JOB!!!!!

If the autostart window did not appear when you put your CD in…

Click the START button and then click Run.  In the Run box, type

D:\setup.exe .  Make sure that you designate the drive letter of your CD ROM.  Then click OK to load the office installation program.
