AROUND THE WORLD WIDE WEB IN 35 DAYS
Session 4 Overview

Session 4 of "Around the WWW" is all about "free" stuff on the Internet. It is possible using Netscape and World Wide Web pages to download free software or upgrades, get text of articles or data from research archives, with possibly only a nominal fee for the information and resources. In addition, Netscape may be used to access resources that are not even part of the World Wide Web. These resources are accessible at "Gopher" sites and via "FTP". By the end of the session, participants will have accessed files at each of these types of locations on the Internet.

Session 4 Outline

Assignment

During the week, participants should try downloading at least one program or file. Also, come to class next week with the lesson plan and top ten list ready to hand in. Extra copies for all participants would be nice but not required. Persons doing a project for an "A" should have discussed their proposal with the instructors and have it ready for class, too. During class, we will have approximately 1 hour of browsing time next week, but please don't try to finish everything in class. Also, if it is necessary to complete assignments after the last week of the class, we may do this but ask that all incompletes be resolved by the end of November. Finally, make sure to copy desired files from the computer tonight for future use!
